Maintaining Your Generator

Your generator is a powerhouse that generates electricity and burns fuel—just like your car. With its moving parts and power generation system, it requires regular upkeep. Would you skip oil changes, tire rotations, or replacing windshield wipers on your car? Of course not! Your generator deserves the same attention. Based on its make, model, and size, here’s what you need to know for proper maintenance.

Property Owner Responsibilities:

  1. Keep it Clear: Remove snow and debris around the generator.
  2. Check the Oil: Regularly inspect the oil level and keep extra on hand.
  3. Fuel Supply: For propane or diesel units, ensure there’s enough fuel.
  4. Know Your Generator: Be able to retrieve error codes and reset the controller. Your technician showed you this at installation, and the owner’s manual has more details.

To Be Completed by a Certified Technician:

  1. Yearly or Bi-Annual Maintenance
  2. Troubleshooting
  3. Disassembling Any Parts

Troubleshooting Your Generator

A person using a cellphone

Before you call, ask yourself these questions to help us assist you better:

Did it complete its last weekly cycle?

Check the display for indications—whether it’s ready, in standby mode, or showing an error code.

Is there an error code displayed?

Most generators show error codes like “Code 22” or “Low Oil Shutdown.” These messages vary by model, but we can help resolve it once we know the code.

Do you have enough fuel?

Generators need fuel to run—just like your car. Check propane, diesel, or gas levels (natural gas doesn’t need checking).

Is it free of snow & debris?

For proper ventilation, ensure the unit is clear of snow, landscaping, or leaves. Poor ventilation can cause performance issues.

Still having issues? Call us!

These are just a few of the common issues we can help with. The more information you can provide, the quicker we can get your generator back in shape. Contact us as soon as you notice a problem, and we’ll resolve it swiftly!
